Saint Francis from Assisi with cross
Hand carved statue of Saint Francis of Assisi with crucifix in linden wood. Nature and animals were particularly close to the heart of Saint Francis, as his saying shows: “That my dearest dog is, you say, O man, is a sin? The dog remained faithful to me in the storm. Man not even in the wind.”
Francis of Assisi has found such recognition to this day as hardly any other saint. He is the patron of environmental protection and ecology, the poor, the blind, the lame, prisoners, social workers, shipwrecked and serves as a mediator between the different religions. His memorial day is October 4th.
