Saint James

Hand carved statue of Saint James after Tilman Riemenschneider. His memorial day is July 25th. Saint James, also known as James the Greater, was the younger brother of the Apostle John and himself one of the 12 Apostles. James and John are also known as the “sons of thunder” because of their short-tempered nature. James died a violent martyr’s death after Jesus’ ascension. In the 8th century his relics came to Spain from a monastery on Mount Sinai, where they found their final resting place on July 25, 816 in the newly built Church of St. James. This developed into the famous place of pilgrimage with the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Saint James is patron of Spain, pilgrims, workers, pharmacists, druggists, wax makers, hat makers, chain makers and for a good apple harvest.
Statue of St. James after Tilman Riemenschneider hand-carved from linden wood in natural, gold leaf or antique versions. The wooden statue is available in the sizes 45 and 60 cm.

Based on Tilman Riemenschneider (1460 – 1531). The original is in the Würzburg Cathedral Museum, made by Tilman Riemenschneider from 1500-1506 and made of gray sandstone, height 197 centimetres.
