Saint Anthony of Padua

In the fastest canonization process in history, just 11 months after his death, Anthony of Padua was raised to the honors of the altars. As a young priest he entered the Franciscan order. Many legends surround his extraordinary skills as a preacher under Francis of Assisi. The sermon to the fish in the sea occupies a special place in his career. Statues of Anthony often depict the saint with the infant Jesus or the lily as a sign of purity. His memorial day is June 13th. In many countries, Saint Anthony is invoked to help find lost things. He is patron of Padua, Lisbon, Paderborn, Hildesheim; of the poor and social workers, of lovers and marriage, of women and children, of bakers, miners, travelers, swineherds, of horses and donkeys.
